Two-way Interactive Communication

Even though many are stuck at home, I believe we still need to see each other. There are several ways to do that that will allow interaction.

It's fairly easy and not too expensive. You will need a device with a camera and a microphone. Most of the equipment we have today comes with those two things as standard equipment.

  • Laptops

  • Smartphones

  • Tablets

  • Computers that are built in to the monitor

If your computer doesn't have it built in, I recommend the Logitech C920 for around $80.

This will allow those that you are connecting to the ability to see and hear you. Hopefully, they have one too, otherwise you might as well just call them.

Don't be bashful, go ahead and turn your camera on. Just be careful of what is in your background and that you have pants on.

You will also need an application or website that supports two-way interactive communication. There are two that I prefer. They currently have special pricing during the COVID-19 situation.

With each of these, there is the ability for other participants to call in with a regular phone.

These are two of the applications used by educators for distance learning and now to teach those students who are staying home. We will use them to conduct our Clay County Commissioners Court meetings. It meets the criteria for "Open Meetings" and allows for people to appear before the court without having to be in the same room with everyone.

If you would like to learn more about how these programs work, send me an email to , just don't come see me.
